Whenever something is on Oprah, you know it’s going to get a lot of attention. The Master Cleanse Diet, also know as the Lemonade diet is no different.

Ever since Beyonce announced that she dropped twenty pounds using it to get ready for a movie there’s been quite a bit of buzz about the lemonade diet.

Many of the claims about the Lemonade Diet sound almost too good to be true. Beyond dropping weight, proponents also say it increases energy, improves mental clarity, improves any number of chronic health problems (like arthritis) – in summary good for just about everything.

Could it really work that well?

The Master Cleanse Review

This is my review.

To start Oprah and Beyonce didn’t invent this colon cleanse.  It’s at least 30 years old and was written about in a book called The Master Cleanse.

The diet should probably be referred to as a fast rather than a diet.   The main feature of the diet is having at least eight glasses a day of the cleansing lemonade.

Here the recipe is if you want to mix a batch:

* 1 glass of water
* Juice of ½ lemon
* 2 tbsp grade B maple syrup
* 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper

Sip at least eight glasses of that mixture a day.

Most versions of this cleanse also suggest non-caffeinated herbal tea while you’re on the diet.

Because it is very calorie and nutrient deficient it doesn’t seem wise to recommend using this program for as long as some people recommend (a week or more).

Realize that with so few calories a lot of the weight you’ll lose beyond the first few days comes from muscle.

Putting aside the calorie restriction, main feature of the master cleanse is that it does on excellent job of colon cleansing. Because so much of our diet is less that ideal these days, many health experts recommend periodic colon cleansing.

The master cleanse not only support digestive function and up overall energy, it also provides for live detoxification.

In addition to this approach, you can buy commercial colon cleanse products, but you may want to try some of the other colon cleanse recipes you’ll find at:

Many might actually ...
